Seoul-based designer KKEKK presents a whimsical collection of bags inspired by human anatomy. A play on the name of the accessory, the Hand Bag series stems from the designer imagining parts of the body being mutated. Though a morbid initial spark of the imagination, it evolved into something friendlier and more playful as she began to envision oversized human hands and the amusement they may bring about as we carry such exaggerated appendages day to day. ‘At first, I just thought, what if our hands got bigger? Then I thought it would be funny to carry around giant hands,’ she says.

carry your belongings or wear it like a glove

KKEKK’s Hand Bags are constructed using plush doll-making techniques, with cotton stuffing inside the fabric providing a soft and inviting texture. Ensuring practicality beyond humor, they feature spacious palm and finger compartments that can be used to store small items. The versatility of the bags also urges their owners to imagine different ways of play and use. It doesn’t just stop at being a bag, it can be used in various ways. You can put your hand in the bag and use the giant hand to wave or shake hands,’ says the designer.

KKEKK is an artist and a designer based in Seoul, South Korea. Across her works, ranging from accessories to installations, she demonstrates the process of expanding the range of senses by materializing suppressed fantasy using plastic art and installations. Through exhibitions, she has showcased her works which fluctuate between fantasy and reality. With her own unique imagination, KKEKK materializes ‘paracosm’ — a specific fantasy world she coined — continuing to try to stimulate the senses of visitors and provoke connection with each other.
