since john wood and paul harrison began working together in 1993, the UK-based duo have continued to explore the world through a series of video works, sculptures, drawings, and doodles. for their latest exhibition — on view at lisbon’s galeria vera cortês until march 11, 2017 — wood and harrison have displayed a series of architectural models that are the byproduct of a film they were working on.

john wood and paul harrison began the project by asking questions such as: ‘what is a city?’, ‘why do people queue around buildings?’, and ‘can you undesign a building?’. ‘originally we were going to make a video using architectural models,’ says the duo. ‘we began story-boarding a kind of narrative. and then we started to draw buildings and spaces. after a while we realized that the architectural models were the work.’

primarily built from plywood, the miniature structures take on a range of forms. ‘some are loosely based upon actual buildings, some are autobiographical, some are things that we would design if we were architects, and some are from films,’ explain wood and harrison. ‘we thought about intention and use, and how human beings don’t always use things quite in the way that they were designed for.’
the exhibition, titled ‘no plans’, remains on view at galeria vera cortês until march 11, 2017.
