the centerpiece of this exhibition is a wall of yellow-and-black dartboards, which viewers are encouraged to use. at a distance, the wall of dartboards dissolves into a surface that resembles a giant rotational field. ‘the idea was to make it as a big abstract painting that was moving all the time.’ dahlgren said during a jan. 9 lecture at the gallery. ‘all the people get to throw the darts. they become the artists.’

several hundred yellow-and-black concentric circles accumulate to form a visually intense work, which makes reference to op art as well as the minimal, colorful aesthetics of pop art.

it can be dizzying to send your red or green darts into this wall of repeating color. dahlgren first realized the dartboard installation ‘I, the world, things, life’ in 2004 for the norrköpings konstmuseum in sweden. since then it was also shown in the nordic pavilion at the 52nd venice biennale in 2007.
