‘Beyond Reality’: an intricate dance of creativity and concept

Founded in 2012, HOFA Gallery (House of Fine Art) has cemented its place as a pioneer in contemporary art. The gallery represents a diverse roster of artists from across the globe, spotlighting works that explore humanity, culture, and emerging technologies. From immersive new media installations to AI-driven art, HOFA consistently curates exhibitions that engage audiences intellectually and emotionally.

With Beyond Reality, the gallery takes another bold step, inviting attendees to reexamine their understanding of reality and its delicate interplay with perception. The exhibition brings together a wide spectrum of artists whose works disrupt and redefine aesthetic coherence. Standouts include Sougwen Chung’s exploration of human-machine collaboration, Ayobola Kekere-Ekun’s quilled interpretations of mythology, and Ilhwa Kim’s meticulous hand-dyed paper sculptures that explore spatial depth.

A spotlight on Owen McAteer

Among the many artists featured, the exhibition also spotlights Owen McAteer’s interactive digital work Seiche, inspired by oscillating waves, which transforms stillness into dynamic motion through viewer interaction. McAteer merges art and science into an interactive experience. This digital installation reflects the tranquil balance of Biscayne Bay while inviting participants to become active agents, generating new patterns of flow through their actions. In doing so, the artist creates a poetic parallel between environmental dynamics and human interaction, offering a profound commentary on the delicate equilibrium of natural systems.

From Zhuang Hong Yi’s floral sculptures crafted from Chinese rice paper to Julian Voss-Andreae’s science-inspired figurative works, Beyond Reality offers an extraordinary range of artistic voices. Sougwen Chung’s robotic collaborations challenge the boundaries between human and machine creativity, while Ilhwa Kim’s intricately dyed hanji paper sculptures redefine depth and spatial storytelling. Eser Gündüz’s multimedia abstractions explore imaginative utopias, and Ayobola Kekere-Ekun’s quilled compositions delve into mythology, trauma, and identity. Joseph Klibansky’s vibrant works blend pop culture with classical motifs, and Igor Dobrowolski’s evocative pieces probe the depths of human experience.

Anne von Freyburg’s Rococo-inspired hand-stitched fabrics question femininity and consumerism, while Camille Hannah’s paradoxical digital-gestural paintings highlight the fluidity of perception. Li Jie’s rhythmical abstract accumulations and Jan Kaláb’s graffiti-informed forms explore the interplay of colour and motion. Gianfranco Meggiato’s geometric sculptures evoke the complexity of the universe, and Kostas Papakostas’s experiments with light and shadow invite dynamic visual engagement. Max Patté’s emotive light sculptures, Romina Ressia’s anachronistic portraits, and Mary Ronayne’s fantastical mythological scenes reveal the diverse narratives of identity.

Moreover, Antonio Signorini’s mythological figures bring ancient themes into the contemporary realm, while Jason Sims’ perceptual light installations create illusions of space. Sophie Victoria’s surreal explorations of the human condition provoke profound reflections. Vladinsky’s gestural abstractions delve into the subconscious, Maxim Wakultschik’s optical illusions reshape portraiture, and Wang Ziling’s sculptural paintings push spatial boundaries. Together, this rich and diverse roster of artists forms a cohesive yet multifaceted narrative, connecting themes of identity, coexistence, and the infinite potential of contemporary art.
