felipe pantone has been making street art since he was 12 years old. the spanish-argentinian artist has left his mark on major cities across the world — in and out of the art world. with an emphasis on motion and change, he has demonstrated a mastery of conventional graffiti, typography and abstraction, which all culminate in his most recent art piece in LA. this artwork is neither necessarily on the street nor in gallery — it is somewhere in between. pantone tagged a 1994 corvette, now known as ‘ULTRADYNAMIC‘. using his pixelated graphics, the car now looks like it’s on the verge of disappearing into thin air as if the invisibility feature were just activated.

the work is featured as part of beyond the streets, a comprehensive exhibition of graffiti and street art in LA. curated by roger gastman, the exhibit spans back in time to the 1980s; looking at where street art has come from, along with where it is going. this ambitious new project by felipe pantone gives his art new meaning by making this 1994 corvette his canvas. he completed this wicked paint job in a car park before the show, using his arsenal of spray paints and carefully combining them to create a glitched-out effect.

this corvette is apparently only the first of 20 street artist modifications to hit the streets/galleries. ‘the series of 20 art cars…will feature prominent artists who have roots from the street culture,’ curator sarah sperling explains. she emphasizes her hopes of this collection’s relevance, believing that this corvette — and potential others — will outlast the artists themselves and roll into the art history books. she goes on to say that these cars will soon be considered relics of the past and the art will educate future generations to come. the cars will likely outlive the artists and spectators, hopefully becoming an important part of art history.’
