continuing his experiments with the visualization of time typically invisible to the human eye, fabian oefner has collaborated with ferrari to realize the high-speed and powerful performance of their 2015 california T model. oefner recently visited ferrari’s headquarters in maranello, italy to interpret the latest grand tourer as ‘state of the art‘ through his own eyes. after driving the car, the swiss artist hoped to reveal the sensation of speed through form, to see the unseen and to relay emotion into a physical art piece.
 

oefner imagined the ways in which velocity could be realized in the physical realm and worked with a medium typical to his practice: neon paint. by blowing a 150 MPH air stream towards the sleek cruiser and simulataneoulsy spraying glow-in-the-dark pigment towards it, he was able to seize the sense of acceleration while the car remained stationary. the resulting video and photographs are an exploration of the essence of the california T — streaks of UV blue, pink and yellow flood down the course of the car, embodying the extreme pace at which it moves. watch the video above to see an in-depth look behind the staging of the performance, from its conception to its final execution.
