for her ’emergency exits’ series alicia calle points out unobserved holes in the street fabric and signals them as supposed ways to escape the urban maze. what could be seen as a positive comment aiming to send some relief to the trapped city dweller turns into a grim farce as it becomes clear that the hole could not be used even as a place to hide out. the project was created as part of the 2007/2008 autonomous art workshop, madrid. you can see more ’emergency exits’ here.
