edoardo tresoldi's wire mesh 'etherea' installation arrives in rome for 'back to nature'

edoardo tresoldi’s ‘etherea’, the wire mesh installation originally conceived for the coachella valley music and arts festival in 2018 (see previous coverage here), has arrived in rome for ‘back to nature’ exhibition. redesigned and rearranged for the occasion, the large-scale public artwork dialogues with the trees of the villa borghese gardens. the evocative piece takes its cues from baroque and neoclassical architecture, while the transparency of its materiality frames the views of the surrounding park in unexpected ways.all images by roberto conte

edoardo tresoldi has redesigned and rearranged ‘ethera’ for its location in villa borghese’s parco dei daini in order to establish a dialogue between the artwork and the trees of the park. the large-scale, wire mesh installation is part of ‘back to nature’, an exhibition project curated by costantino d’orazio, which takes place until december 13, 2020.  about 11 meters high, ‘etherea’ offers a multi-dimensional experience to visitors of the exhibition, who can walk through it freely.

the transparent sculpture, which references baroque and neoclassical architecture in its construction, dialogues with the nature of parco dei daini. seen from the inside, the park’s proportions seem to change and the public can experience the open space in a new, unexpected way. with ‘etherea’, tresoldi continues to investigate the relation between man and landscape, using the language of architecture as an expressive tool and a key to interpreting space.
