sculptor edoardo tresoldi and italian musician IOSONOUNCANE have collaborated on an audio-visual performance in southern italy that brings together art and music in a marine dimension. ‘locus’ is a floating installation that hosts IOSONOUNCANE’s unreleased composition within an ethereal wire mesh sailboat, delicately emerging from the bay of sapri. visitors on the nearby beach experienced the performance from shore, forming new ways for the public to engage with sound and the sea.

presented for derive festival in sapri — the first edition of an experimental art, music and poetry project curated by antonio oriente — ‘locus’ expands upon tresoldi’s use of wire mesh in the making of ghostly sculptural artworks. here, a simple row boat is transformed into a hauntingly beautiful sail boat, with lighting design by luca agnani adding a strong yet subtle glow to the installation by night. the semi-opaque planes and volumes formed from the wire mesh interact with IOSONOUNCANE’s electronic soundscapes, creating symphonies amplified by the reverb of the sea and redefining the relationship between artist and audience.
