today, in indio, california, the coachella music festival event is transporting visitors, once again, to another dimension. the weeknd, cardi B, alt J, post malone and more will hypnotize the concert-goers, while the venue quietly holds everything in place. one venue contributor in particular — edoardo tresoldi — holds the hands of all in attendance, with his giant, dreamlike, wire mesh structures: ‘etherea.’

alongside other installations, etherea will exist at coachella for two consecutive weekends. the baroque, neoclassical trio have already been featured on coachella’s instagram @coachella — we see two friends, holding two smiley-face balloons at sunset. their shaded eyes and smiles are in praise to something or someone off screen, but in the distance, out of focus, edoardo’s ethereal creation omnisciently watches over. blurred, it feels like it could be solid. in a way it is. in a way it isn’t. like skeletons of a place that didn’t last long enough. just two weeks.

coachella, a temporary city of thoughts and feelings, is an ideal place of any for tresoldi to continue his sculptural narrative, telling the story of the ephemeral. designed to be continuously interactive, etherea is a place for viewers to introspectively create their own dialogue with themselves — a conversation that takes place beneath an open sanctuary, where clouds are barely obscured and rain may not be defended. the majesty of the sky is preserved, but emotionally, beneath one of the three structures, attendees may feel sheltered enough to take a pause from the stages.edoardo tresoldi

as the largest installation of the festival, etherea comes second only to the music performances in creating a multi-dimensional experience. transparent, solid etherea invites guests to grow and shrink as they walk through different scales and perspectives. one moment, time moves fast and you feel big. in an instant, time slows, the building grows and you feel small. the three structures are portals of contemplation — places to process and reflect on the flux of experiences happening per minute.
