belgian artist cindy wright paints large-scale portraits and still-lifes which force her viewer to scrutinize the often unconsidered, but important details of people and objects; investigating skin, fat, ripples in fabric or internal organs. in order for her images to remain recognizable, viewers must stand at a distance, but upon coming closer and inspecting the canvas, the abstract brush strokes which make up the image are revealed. despite the painterly presence of her work, wright’s use of photographs as a reference, strips her work of any tenderness, expressing a sterile quality, one that is more of clinical observation.
cindy wright received her MFA from the royal academy for fine arts antwerp, belgium and has completed postgraduate studies at the higher institute for fine art also in antwerp. she has exhibited throughout europe and within the united states include a solo show at the las vegas art museum, NV. this will be wright’s second solo show at the mark moore gallery.

alongside wright, american artist jason salavon will be exhibiting in the project room of the mark moore gallery. salavon employs self-scripted computer games to process and reconfigure data which is taken from an all-encompassing cultural landscape. translating intangible statistics into visual abstractions, his work highlights the larger implications of how information is produced and processed rather than giving any formal critique of a particular subject.
jason salavon received his MFA from the school of the art institute of chicago in chicago, illinois, where he now lives and works. he has exhibited throughout the U.S. and internationally including shows at the los angeles county museum of art and the chicago museum of contemporary art. his work is included in a number of public collections: the whitney museum of american art, new york, museum of contemporary art chicago and the museum of fine arts, houston, texas to name a few. this is his first solo exhibition at the mark moore gallery.
