within the large, formerly industrial building part of the maison folie complex in mons, france, milan-based art and design duo carnovsky have created a site specific installation of wallpaper and colored lights.
conceived for the ‘ailleurs en folie milan’ event — curated by francesca sarti of arabeschi di latte — carnovsky’s ‘RGB trattoria’ spreads over 3 levels of the site. on the central background wall stands a gigantic human figure. ‘vesalio n.’ erects more than 9 meters above the ground, dominating the space and revealing, through the application of colored lights, its muscles, skeleton and venous system.
the space hosted a temporary restaurant called ‘the bistrot folie’
on the second level are a set of windows, depicting an ever-changing landscape that illustrates the discovery of new worlds. changing in color from saturated blue to pink, red and green, each window reveals a series of images that evolve in hue and composition. ‘landscape n.2’ is a new piece on the theme of travel, giving viewers the sense of movement through a colorful and luminous sequence of imagery.
the restaurant’s tables have been set with placemats decorated with carnovsky’s ‘animalia n.2’ design
during the event, the space hosted a temporary restaurant called ‘the bistrot folie’ which presented a milanese menu, whose tables were set with placemats decorated with carnovsky’s ‘animalia n.2’. finally, the bar has been transformed into a mutating aquarium of curiosities where fish and various underwater creatures, both imaginary and factual, swim together in a sea of color and light.
