gingerly balanced on a lane of the sikleborg motorvej — connecting the danish cities of herning and aarhus — is an enormous boulder. in stark contrast to the flat, sleek asphalt landscape it’s been placed on, the giant rock is the third part of an ongoing series of papier-mâché rock sculptures by danish-german duo BORGMAN | LENK

despite its great size and seeming solidity, the giant rock — entitled WURF III — is actually a cleverly crafted paper creation. speaking about series, BORGMAN | LENK have said, ‘the title ‘WURF’ refers to the temporal dimension of the installation — it points to the solidification of the movement that preceded the act of enclosure.’ having previously encased WURF in a small glasshouse and hung it from the ceiling of a church, this most recent location brings an air of modernity to the piece. juxtaposing urbanity and mobility with an almost hilariously alien object, the installation tackles ideas of perspective, fragility and the relationship between humankind and the world around us.

the great boulder confuses the viewer’s sense of perspective, dimensionality and weight

suffice to say it won’t be breaking the speed limit any time soon
