the ‘iced flowers’ exhibition created by tokyo-based florist artist, azuma makoto, observes the changing life of flowers that have been placed in frozen water. the assortments of plants display unique expressions that are not visible in everyday activity, but are when placed under different environments such as this extreme case. the clear, almost crystal-like prisons make a vivid contrast with the beautiful, suspended objects inside. as the ice begins to melt, the blossoms start to change shape and the disparity is heightened as a glowing effect is added. this ever-evolving art spectacle furthers azuma’s already extensive portfolio of flower-influenced work, which the recent ‘exobiotanica‘ project where plants were dangled up in space, is one such example.
