at the fendi ginza pop up store in tokyo, japanese artist azuma makoto has turned a piaggio APE scooter into a mobile flower shop. from now until april 17, 2016, visitors to the retail store can purchase blooms and buds at ‘flowerland’, a vintage cruiser that has been covered in lush greenery and exotic botanical species. in keeping with the motifs and themes that define the luxury brand’s spring/summer collection, makoto has placed this colorful, commercial installation at the entry point of the shop.

the side of the vehicle has been cut-out to reveal a series of stacked shelves and drawers, serving as display and exhibition spaces for small floral objects for sale. items include miniature glass vessels filled with colorful orchids and wrapped with fendi fur pom poms, limited edition bags and large bouquets. a ‘roof terrace’ and balcony have been added to the top of the scooter, where a salesperson can store and access additional stems. in using an italian scooter as part of the installation, makoto pays homage to fendi’s roman roots and enforces the heritage of the brand within the tokyo retail space.
