angus muir turns wellington cable car tunnel into a luminous LED landscape
in the capital of new zealand, designer angus muir has installed a permanent LED lighting installation inside a wellington tram tunnel. forming an arched configuration overhead, a sequence of curved luminaries are programmed to change in duration and hue, creating an ever-evolving landscape of color and light.

commissioned by the wellington cable car company for a tunnel in the suburb of kelburn, the installation reconsiders the architecture of the space as a luminous and dynamic channel. passengers that ride through the tunnel are surrounded by bursts of LED lights that flash on and off to create a hypnotizing array of patterns. muir has designed the sequence of colors to fluctuate through a kaleidoscopic spectrum of blues, reds, yellows and greens, activating the otherwise shadowy space as a bright and vivid landscape of light.
