ambience lighting and artist duro cubrilo present ‘tesla’, a collaborative lighting installation and structure dedicated to electrical pioneer nikola tesla. the piece is made using 759 LED globes mounted to a grid, with various painted ‘masks’ that control light levels. when viewed as a whole, the composition creates an iconic image of the ‘father of modern technology’. traditional globe bulbs were selected as a playful reference to the rivalry between tesla and his contemporary thomas edison; the latter whom received many accolades while tesla’s own achievements went largely unrecognized.
