alban guého’s ‘flood’ installation has been selected to participate in the 2015 nuit blanche festival in paris. this year’s annual one-night event will echo climate issues to be raised at the COP21 — conference of parties — forum, which takes place in the city this november. the work takes a critical stance on extreme natural phenomena that are taking place worldwide with increasing frequency. deluge — flood — myths, are some of the most universally recognized tales. generally, the flood is a direct result of humans angering some form of a supreme being(s).

however, closer inspection of many stories places blame not only the sins of humankind, but also the misuse and decay of the world. a planet-wide tsunami would end humanity as we know it, but it would also serve as a forced evolution and regeneration of our species. ‘flood’ serves as a subtle reminder of the fragility of our planet

the installation is composed of two superimposed structures, placed opposite on the floor and ceiling. the two are connected by a series of PVC sections. a black liquid, either oil or paint, will be pumped at a slow trickle through the pvc representing the slow, unceasing degradation of natural elements and resources. as the audience wanders, weaves, and observes the rain-like piece, they will be forced to look head-on at the dim future humanity currently has in store. ‘flood’ is currently gathering funds on kickstarter; to support the project, please click here
