renowned architectural photographer iwan baan has captured hong kong’s ‘jockey club innovation tower’ the new home of the region’s polytechnic university (polyU) school of design, and the jockey club design institute for social innovation. designed by zaha hadid, 15,000 square meters of floor area is spread across 15 storeys, accommodating up to 1,800 students and staff per day. positioned on an irregularly shaped narrow plot of land, the building is connected to the rest of the campus allowing the school’s various faculties to develop specific initiatives that engage the local community.

the fluid articulation of space comprises internal and external courtyards that form informal areas where students and staff can congregate and interact. these more intimate volumes are contrasted by large exhibition forums, studios, theaters and further recreational facilities. circulation routes and communal spaces are arranged to promote engagement among the tower’s programs and departments.
