B2y office by yoon space illuminated by hair-like cable ties

korea international consulting associates (K.I.C.A), a company that exports hair care products to america, europe, africa and other parts of asia, is more famous in foreign countries than in its native land. it is applying more than 20 items for a patent alongside the launch of a new label called ‘B2y’. with these objectives, the enterprise intended to convey the brand concept by filling its office building with an atmosphere of shapes and materials that could be found in works of fine art. in order to physically realize this renewal project and introduce B2y to korea, the business approached the designers of yoon space.

the approach starts from the company’s main priority: hair. in turn, the space uses multiple elements to make references towards glossy, waving, and healthy locks. the exterior has become a white mass highlighted by tens of thousands of cable ties, a representation of a single hair strand and contrast to the existing granite tiles. this appearance embraces the crude mass with a materiality that replicates the aesthetic of a pure white feather, and the light in vivid red emphasize specific areas.

located within a four-storey structure, the clients wanted the headquarters to act as cultural space by destroying the basic concept of an office and raising its status. using C1 red, with a strong impact and attentiveness, barrisol lighting is connected along the reception zone, the first program for visiting and meeting. here, glossy and translucent acrylic emphasizes the color.

the lighting effect is enhanced by metal beads along the staircase

ceilings of entrance and corridor leading to education room on the upper floor stimulate the five senses through the pink color of the cable ties flickering in the wind and the light. displaying the both uses for meeting and business, the lounge is composed as an area of communication between the staff and customers. ‘in particular, organically shaped units compliment the remaining monotone by adding visual amusement to the solidity of the straight lines, which connect wall to wall,’ says the architects.

the education room and hair care room have become the minimal space in black and white, while the restrooms are complete with moderate simplicity by white porcelain that has been sculpted by a ceramic artist. a lighting fixture, composed with a geographical pattern of glass, gives the small rhythm to the space at the hair care room. meanwhile, the education room shows the figures different from the other programs through a metallic black backdrop and white board with varying the intervals between the straight, simple patterns.
