A HOUSE THAT BREATHES AND CHANGES IN VIETNAM

AD9 architects’ H house in ho chi minh city, vietnam, is clad in a facade of eight revolving wooden shutters that create an illusion of ‘the house breathing and changing’. designed for a young creative couple with a passion for nature, the project takes its cues from traditional houses of central vietnam, with the different layers arranged in a way that adds a positive touch to the residents’ daily activities. AD9 has inserted several openings throughout that allow natural light to travel from the outside to the inside, from the top to the bottom and through different times of the day, intertwining with the lush greenery.wooden revolving shutters clad the facade of AD9 architects' H house in vietnam

AD9 ARCHITECTS CONNECTS H HOUSE TO NATURE

H house by AD9 architects is located in a developing area west of downtown saigon, where urbanization is taking place massively. ‘a common factor of the suburban residential areas is the clusters of industrial zones, where mid and small sized factories co-exist with residential accommodations,’ explains the vietnamese architecture studio. ‘this is part of the main cause of negative environmental problems on the living area (dust pollution, noise pollution, transportation issues). furthermore, said factors also isolate suburban houses and create a disconnection with the natural environment.’ to counter that, the architects have created a home that can be opened or closed towards its surroundings depending on the residents’ needs, while abundant greenery and natural light create a harmonious interior connected to nature. the facade of eight revolving shutters regulates environmental factors such as noise, dust, and the changing weather, while allowing the architectural morphology to constantly change and evolve.

the interior space is a natural continuation of the outside area, designed as a small journey to experience the house in different ways during the day. all areas are harmoniously connected, and private and common zones are carefully planned for daily activities. trees and light playing a very important role throughout, highlighted in the building’s big garden, which is reserved for planting trees, vegetables, and for relaxation.
