whitaker studio envisions the 'anywhere house' to be playfully rearranged

following the success of its joshua tree residence, london-based whitaker studio envisions its ‘anywhere house.’ characterized as a cluster of faceted geometries, the dwelling is envisioned as a modular system which is could be easily transported and reproduced. the team comments on the concept’s inception following the proposed house in joshua tree: ‘we started receiving enquiries about whether the house could be reproduced en masse, or whether we had a design that could be purchased off the shelf.’

whitaker studio’s ‘anywhere house’ comprises a collection of modules designed to be playfully reorganized. while the joshua tree residence is not envisioned to be easily transformed in this way, jason of whitaker studio notes: ‘I think a lot of these enquiries came about because the joshua tree residence is created out of shipping containers, so people maybe perceived it as easily transportable. the joy of that project though is taking something that is highly generic and transportable and turning that into something very unique and site-specific.’ the ‘anywhere house,’ introduces a system of organization which leads to a potential variety of iterations, where no two homes are the same.

with the ‘anywhere house,’ whitaker studio develops a kit of parts, each with its own program, to be clustered into a range of configurations. these modules include three unique bedroom units, a living room unit, a kitchen unit, a bathroom unit, and a study unit. each piece has at least two openings to offer points of connection to the next unit, or can be otherwise capped with a window or door. there are at least two new orientations for each module added. with a limitless amount of units to be accumulated, the ‘anywhere house’ might manifest in an infinite number of forms. whitaker studio is currently working towards building the first ‘anywhere house’ alongside a lake in alberta, canada.
