WeHHA HOUSE: A TROPICAL RESIDENCE AT THE HEART OF BANGKOK

located in bangkok, thailand, WEHHA HOUSE is a tropical residence completed by junsekino architect and design. the owners, a small family of 4, envisioned their home being fully connected to nature. with that in mind, the architect worked on dissolving the boundary between the indoors and outdoors through unique spatial organization and material selection to create a visual relation between the house and the surrounding nature.

blurring the lines: becoming part of nature

naturally, the adaptation of the house to the local tropical weather became the main focus for the architect. instead of insulating the living space from the heat and humidity, he decided to allow these qualities to become part of the design. the permeable façade made of steel mesh wrapping around the house decreases the solidity of the structure and allows for natural ventilation and light penetration within the living space, without impeding on privacy. moreover, the transparent quality of the mesh material gives room for plants to grow and become part of the architecture.

the double volume space: maintaining visual contact

the WEHHA HOUSE is divided into 2 stories, and  all different spatial functions are attached to the double volume space at the center which is the main active hub composed of an open plan living room, a dining area and a shallow pool terrace. this double volume space works as a vertical and horizontal connection within the residence – helping to preserve visual contact wherever the owners are. the second floor is composed of 3 bedrooms, all surrounded by terraces.
