FACTORY HOUSE aims for an ‘Abstracted Factory’ Aesthetic

slow architects takes over the construction of FACTORY HOUSE, a residence in Japan defined by its characteristic industrial style. The design deviates from traditional boundaries to fulfill the client’s vision through materiality and spatial composition, ultimately achieving an ‘abstracted factory’ aesthetic by baring the essence of foundational elements and structure.

Situated within a hillside residential area, the project caters to users with a diverse range of hobbies, particularly motorsports, and their need for a multifunctional space that can serve as a comfortable residence but also doubles as a gathering hub for meeting with their like-minded friends during weekends.

Galvalume Steel and Slate Waves Define the Exterior

Taking industrial style as a guiding principle, the team at slow architects aligns the design with the client’s requirements, with an emphasis on materials and spatial configuration. The exterior facade boasts a fusion of Galvalume steel sheets and slate waves, presenting a visually uniform composition. Inside, the material selection includes concrete for the flooring, Lauan plywood, and wood wool cement boards. The materiality is intentionally revealed to expose the underlying structural elements. FACTORY HOUSE fuses design and functionality offering a unique and minimal setting.
