danish design company vipp has completed their first architectural project – a plug and play getaway conceived as a ‘livable industrial object’. the 55 square meter unit, named the steel-clad ‘vipp shelter’, boasts a simple grid structure that supports the two level space, and elevates it above the woodland floor. internally, the dwelling is fitted out with the company’s products, with hooks, lamps and kitchen appliances ensuring that the scheme retains a strong sense of identity.

‘the objective was not to make a house or a mobile home. vipp is rooted in the manufacture of industrial objects, so the term shelter is a typology that allows us to define this hybrid as a spacious, functionally generic, livable object’, explains morten bo jensen, chief designer at vipp.

‘there is plenty of amazing architecture out there, but we wanted to conceive something different; an escape in the form of an object designed down to last detail, where the only choice left to the customer, is where to put it’.

the self-contained residence can host up to four people at any one time, with one main bed for two people in the lofted upper storey, and space for two additional guests on the day bed on the lower level. large windows present sweeping external views from the home’s living accommodation, where a kitchen unit is joined by a versatile table.

the design team sought to simplify the process of creating your own retreat. consequently, the shelter can be constructed on site within 3-5 days and comes with furniture, lighting, tableware and bed linen included.
