kauslab brings the lush nature of tulum into this rentable beachside villa

villa destiny in tulum, mexico by kauslab is designed based on an entire artistic, architectural, and conceptual proposal. it not only contemplates the design of the internal spaces of the house but also starts from the same natural environment where it is located- the sian ka’an reserve; a place where the beach and the lagoon converge. based on the very particular geographical characteristics of this reserve, kauslab has developed a whole concept where exterior and interior spaces merge into a single artistic and architectural proposal. they were inspired by the name of ‘sian ka’an’ which means ‘heaven’s door’, and wanted to symbolically recreate ‘opening the door’ by creating a single space made up of both the house and its environment.

kauslab wanted all colors, shapes, and figures founded around this building to unfold the design of the interior spaces while bringing peace and subtle beauty of this particular place in the middle of the mexican caribbean to the different rooms that make up the house. they wanted to propose a new vision for the house itself, transforming it into a hotel/boutique/arthouse going beyond the selection of furniture and the setting of the spaces. this process takes villa destiny from being a domestic building in the middle of the reserve to a place with a purpose that transcends every day.

the designers wanted the place to be invaded by art and by an eclectic and elegant interior design to generate the concept of ‘arthouse’, a place where art lives. for this, adrián gómez has developed an exclusive collection ‘the white devil volume 2’, to be exhibited in this house, where a wide, colorful, and contrasting discourse of colors is presented in a subtle and refined way, accompanied by a series of extremely symbolic characters, that put the hallmark of the brand in the spaces, filling them with light and deep meaning.

as a final touch that encompasses and unifies this multifaceted project, a commercial image that defines the new identity of villa destiny tulum has been developed, making it a complete brand with its own stamp and branding. this gives an authentic voice to the project, encompassing all the different uses that this space can offer as a destination and a ‘house of art’.

being in the sian ka’an biosphere reserve that has strict ecological standards to protect the environment and properties, this residence is also a prototype of ecology. the designers took advantage of the caribbean sun, using its energy to power the house entirety through solar panels. located on a plot of approximately one hectare, the 192-square-meter property offers 100 meters of beachfront, an exclusive and private hideaway for a few lucky, with captivating views of the lagoon and the sea.

the interior is composed of three bedrooms with integrated bathrooms, an elegant living room, a dining room, and a large kitchen. as for the exterior space, a terrace with a wooden deck of 185 square meters allows for cozy dinners and gatherings with family and friends. another 139-square-meter terrace takes place on the rooftop for sunbathing and enjoying timeless sunsets. a bar with a chillout and games area is located in the basement along with two extra rooms for employees.

the villa is a perfect combination of typical materials of the region; wood, grass, and stone in perfect balance with the abundant vegetation. neutral tones led by gray and white make up the main color palette of the space. as for the furniture, it is an eclectic mix of carefully selected pieces that combine dark woods, neutral upholstery, natural fabrics, and metals in shades of bronze and aged gold. the textiles that complement the decoration are part of the kaus home collection from kauslab by adrián gómez artist. because the building is above ground level, the existing space under the house has been used to design a semi-open entertainment area with five specific zones.

in its entirety, villa destiny tulúm is an accommodation project aimed to join the tourism system in high-standard boutique houses. the interior has been designed to create moments that will make the stay a memorable experience by mixing hospitality, art, and architecture with the magical nature of sian ka’an biosphere reserve.
