‘venice house’ by predock frane architects is a remodel/addition for a couple and their dog in venice beach, california, adjacent to the original canals, where the body of the 1940’s bungalow that was demolished established up a set of control points for the new project.

at the apex of the original pitched roof, the center point of a sculptural clerestory object constructed of twisting squares brings light into the center of the new kitchen and living spaces. thought of as a reductive mass, corners over and under stairs are clipped to compress and accentuate space. these modified corners are coded with a wood lining on the interior.
