these gold structures are the new apartments of villaverde hotel and resort in fagagna, and a recent addition to the udine golf club. this location in north italy is a site rich in nature, with a habitat that has recently reintroduced the rare white stork and hermit ibis. it is a naturalistic oasis, which makes this golf course even more appealing. for ‘the lodge’, four volumes are elevated and staggered, each with a large panoramic window that allows views of the beautiful course and nature of the region.

the buildings of the club were designed by the firm uppercut — a duo of italian engineers filippo burelli and giacomo borta. this repeating design for ‘the lodge’ minimizes the environmental impact and construction time. the four buildings took only nine months to complete, and comprise two floors above ground and an upper volume slightly overhanging above the lower — thus providing a shelter for the patio below. the lower concrete space, with its ebony black finish, contrasts the upper, which is glossy and bright.

the structures’ simple plan also allows for flexibility in use. the rooms can host single guests, or large groups of up to eight. completely freestanding are also the beds, which are equipped with decomposable structures that give total versatility in the management of the room. each building is composed of two apartments with independent entrances. the ground floor is preceded by a covered patio and a vestibule with its own hallway that opens up into a studio with all facilities including a double bedroom with large windows overlooking the golf course, a wardrobe and a bathroom. the 91 square meter ground floor apartment is composed of two double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large living area with kitchen and a sofa bed.
