in the design for the facade of the building we chose for an articulated sobriety, incorporating contrasting scales of detail. the horizontal bands which wrap and organize the building present a sober articulation from a distance, however as you get closer to the building you discover a refined scale of intricate, complex detailing.‘ explained ben van berkel of UNStudio.

the design of the building seeks to facilitate an updated work culture, where spontaneous meetings and workgroups are becoming more commonplace. consequently, each area of the proposal offers flexible and adaptable space where debate and discussion can occur.

the theme of flexibility is extended to the living units, where floor plans have been designed to offer a variety of different configurations, catering for the specific requirements of the occupants. a range of external spaces enable interaction, establishing a community atmosphere, but with the privacy desired of a residential property. the proposal for ‘baumkirchen mitte’ tower also incorporates environmentally sustainable solutions, integrating gardens and green roofs in addition to rainwater harvesting systems.
