gently curving upwards, the ‘new city flower’ by chinese firm UA studio 7 is a green high-rise based on the region’s beloved rose form. the 280m skyscraper is located in the fushun and shenyang junction area in china, where the new town core of shen-fu meets the economic development zone and the riverfront. the tower is part of the ‘trinity’ master plan, along with a five star hotel, located in the center of the lake and the ‘ring of life’ structure. referring to the shape of a rose bud, the cylindrical body mass features six petals that wind around the exterior shell, overlapping one another. offsetting the tall nature of the building, gentle slopes of green were added at its commercial base, forming a podium to highlight the ‘flower’ in the middle. the project was designed as part of a mixed-used district, covering an area of 31,000 square meters that also includes: high end offices, sky apartments, a cloud financial clubhouse, and two underground floors for car parking.

generated using the parametric plug-in application grasshopper, the massing of the tower from concept to detailed design was able to efficiently be modified to achieve a high-level of accuracy. the curtain wall strategy employs a cell, seam stitching pattern, allowing the volume’s multi-faceted curving façade.
