U67, founded by fabio gigone and angela gigliotti, present the ‘mosque in reykjavik’. the conceptual project creates a place where islamic culture can be intertwined with the architectural specificity of the icelandic capital. the ‘mosque’ dually combines notions of islamic culture and northern environments, which results in not only a place for worship, but a cultural learning hub as well.

the site is split into two distinct forms; a flat, solid volume that hosts all common areas and research areas. and a worship volume with vaulted ceilings to remind visitors of the volcanic landscape that surrounds the area. in addition, a 19m tower is placed a short distance from the other structures, and points in the direction of the ‘qibla’ (to mecca)
