Off a path in the fields of Giez, France, the Lake Odyssey hut installation appears as a burning wooden monolith. Designed by super bueno studio along with Christelle Davrieux, it takes the form of an architectural archetype with, in the upper part, two steeply inclined sides. The materiality of this simple and slender form refers to the shadow of the undergrowth and the dark trunks stored nearby.

A human-scale opening provides a frame for the vast landscape, its brightness contrasting with the dark shell of the periphery. The void introduces the lights, colors, sounds, scents, and perpetual movement of the natural landscape into its form.

‘We are at the edge of the forest, where the trees rise proudly vertically, and along wood storage where the human hand has laid them horizontally,’ shares the team at super bueno studio. In the distance of the hut sits a range of mountains, expansive fields, and Lake Annecy, inviting a dialogue with its context.

Once the few bars of the ladder are mounted and the first level of the monolithic hut is reached, its ground lowers thanks to a gentle slope. The Lake Odyssey announces a place of passage, inviting visitors to stand, lay, sit, walk, or even slide. ‘From the warm wood hut at the heart of the burnt wood monolith, everyone will find a break to think about the feeling that this transition evokes,’ the team continues. It further initiates a transition between the path where the eye butts on the brownish bark of the trunks and the opening on the panorama of the lake.
