'tom dixon thessaloniki' opens as hybrid between experiential showroom + café in greece

‘tom dixon thessaloniki’ recently opened in the heart of the greek city as a hybrid between an experiential showroom and a café. the two-story space showcases tom dixon products against a backdrop of concrete walls and ceilings, and custom-made furniture made from galvanized steel. developed in partnership with architecture and design store 2nd floor, the showroom immerses visitors in the the brand’s aesthetic and design, as they enjoy their coffee and ‘tom dixon carbon cookies’, made by a local pastry shop.

operated by 2nd floor, tom dixon thessaloniki has been developed in compliance with the british, luxury design brand’s visual identity, and furnished with tom dixon products as well as custom-made furniture. its two-story interiors are defined by a juxtaposition of raw and refined, of rough and polished, which seamlessly blend together. upon entrance, visitors are met with a ‘cloud’ of mirrorball pendants floating above their heads. original features of the space itself have been preserved, restored, and highlighted, including the zoellner ceilings and concrete elements.

the floor inside is covered with self-leveling concrete, and walls have been specially treated to reinforce the feeling of roughness, while some were painted in the blue and pink of the brand’s store identity. tom dixon furniture, lights and accessories, were carefully curated and placed by product family, including lights from the ‘spring’ series, and a playful arrangement of ‘melt’ pendants, among others. the majority of tables are from the ‘tube’ and the ‘screw’ collection with elegant marble tops, and the chairs are a compilation of the ‘fan’, ‘slab’, and ‘scoop’ collections.

custom-made furniture pieces complete the space, including the bar, the showcase of accessories, the benches, the staff locker and the exterior of the WC, which were made from galvanized steel and shaped like geometric solids. visitors to the showroom can also enjoy coffee, drinks, and small treats, including the ‘tom dixon carbon cookies’, created in collaboration with local pastry shop sugarela.
