american practice the los angeles design group has proposed an interior installation for a pop-up clothing retail environment located in new york, new york. a continuous large scale inflatable object mimicking the underbelly of a pig trisects the store, obstructing the ability to witness the entire piece from any one perspective. the resulting three intimate spaces are experienced in a processional manner as the bulbous fabric element compresses the vertical plane in between the successive chambers.

fat grotto, gothic: wherein visitors browse through a collection of vintage clothes

the softly lit entry space reveals a series of pouches intersecting the ceiling which when unzipped offers stuffed animals for customers to select from. shoppers pass through a narrow portal entering ‘the grotto’ featuring vintage clothes hung from swagged ropes. after another tight passage, an open room devoid of program allows flexible interaction within the space. the character of a pig is infused within the spatial voids producing a memorable experience for visitors.
