‘Industrial Complex in Megara’ reveals a binary design

Emerging steadily from the Greek landscape, the ‘Industrial Complex in Megara’ by Tense Architecture Network / TAN is envisioned as an expressive volume with a dual character: production and administration. Production is held in the main corpus of the factory, designed as an elongated, orthogonal, and earthed building. In stark contrast, the administrative hub presents itself as a multi-faceted and inverted pyramid hinged at the building corner. Strongly sculpted, it opposes the main body, standing freely as its point of entrance or its culminating end -with the provocative reversal of the mass acting as a symbol of power,’ elaborates the team.industial complex in megara designed by tense architecture network 1

For the inverted pyramid, TAN (see more here) proposed sculpting it out of reinforced concrete and fitting it with two levels. The upper one hosts the administrative offices and presentation and meeting rooms. One of its concrete buttresses serves as a staircase, while its supportive core is penetrated by the elevator. The hovering volume is lightly tinted – powerfully contrasting with its dark concrete base reflected in a curvilinear water feature.

The main corpus of the factory, where production takes place, is covered in aluminum sheets, with a perforated design overtaking its eastern facade and rooftop. Small, circular holes illuminate the interiors in a playfully evolving manner, from sunset to sunrise.

The ‘Industrial Complex in Megara’ proposal was originally launched in 2020 alongside a team of six.
