taste space completes 4th wall cocktail bar

Taste Space’s 4th Wall cocktail bar in Bangkok sits as a nostalgic ode to the golden age of 60s cinema, envisioning the future through the lens of a bygone era. Informing the decor, shapes, colors, and textures, of the space, the Thai practice looks to both the past and present, intertwining Modern and Postermodern styles for an eclectic retro-futuristic fusion. Throughout, a blend of organic and geometric shapes derived from 60s TV such as curved glass frames, TV sets, poles, and the bar itself, enliven the space, presenting a novel perspective on the iconic aesthetics of the time. Stepping inside the bar, guests are led through an immersive colored corridor reminiscent of an old cinema that acts as a time machine. A central bar at its end encourages interactive conversations with mixologists, serving as both a visual and communal focal point.

a futuristic time capsule

Drawing from the Bauhaus-Modern-Brutalism-Postmodern design spectrum, Taste Space’s concept for the 4th Wall cocktail bar shapes a distinctive retro-futuristic space. The design studio’s material palette contrasts the raw finish of the likes of textured concrete with the playful ambiance of vibrant orange-green hues, reminiscent of brutalism and postmodernism. Along the corridor, high-gloss retro TVs symbolize the prevalent use of plastics in the 60s, creating a visually dynamic journey through time. Acrylic and tinted glass additionally offer vibrant and diffused lighting that sets the mood, as illumination employs 60s-inspired chrome-coated bulbs to infuse a touch of authenticity.
