taller héctor barroso designs its ‘house in avandaro’ as a cluster of volumes expressed with a minimal language and a rich, earthen materiality. distributed across a flat site as a series of individual dwellings, the residence is surrounded by the wild, overgrown plant life of mexico’s natural forest, valle de bravo. each volume takes on its own distinct orientation, defined by its program, and maintains a dialogue with each of the others through a central void, a pool of water that serves as a reflective element, emphasizing the surrounding pine trees.

taller héctor barroso introduces its house in avandaro with a rhythmic succession of columns that define its approach. this point of entry leads to a collection of porticos that generate transitions between different scales and atmospheres. in these intersections between volumes, a different rhythm, composed by narrow wooden lattices, grants privacy and a sense of intimacy. the balance between a material palette of mud brick, oak wood and soil, together with its vernacular building processes serve to integrate the country house harmoniously with its context though an architecture that dialogues and understands its environment.
