The Purple Ink Studio teams up with One Window Ventures to present Idylll, a restaurant in Bengaluru wrapped in earthen hues and textures. Inspired by the beauty of natural transformations observed in age-old recipes, the space aims to encapsulate a cultural richness of the Indian fine dining experience. The design team has devised a visual narrative that reflects these values, seeking to establish a distinct presence in urban Bengaluru and leading the way.

Paying homage to the celebratory structures in Jaipur, the building is enshrouded in a semi-transparent layer, subtly reflecting the vibrant hues and intricate details of the city’s heritage. The fillets, a derivative of the geometry, serve as a cultural expression, while the black granite flooring and the copper hues of the facade symbolize the convergence of two distant yet deeply rooted regions. The concept of the gateway city remains integral.

a sensory dining experience that nods to the cultures of india

Stepping inside, the journey transcends into a crafted culinary exploration embracing the spirits of both cities. The dining experience then takes centre stage by forging a profound connection between the earth and the transformative qualities of food. Crafting a complete sensory experience, the architects at The Purple Ink Studio have used the tactile sensation of the earth as a narrative, shaping spaces with a sense of solidity and continuity, akin to a monolith rising from the ground. The dining spaces are divided into three significant areas, each enriched with unique experiences yet maintaining a cohesive narrative.

Indian Plates at the lower level features an organic dining setting that complements the natural movement and swirls. A private dining space overlooking the outdoors accommodates up to 12 people for an intimate gathering. Here, a 3 meter diameter circular table adds to the fluidity of Idylll while complementing the ceiling fresco. As one ascends to the high energy cocktail room at the upper level, the palette offers a shift in the ambience and experience, with a more airy quality with soft hues and natural tones. Here, illuminated circular forms and patterns enliven the space, reflected in the ceiling as ripples cascading down to the backlit bar.

Idylll’s monolithic monotone walls are designed as the main protagonist elevating the dining experience and fostering a sense of intimacy. The Purple Ink Studio has carefully crafted its color and texture to embody the qualities of earth and add depth to the space. The positioning of the frescos is orchestrated to enhance the geometry of the dining setting, featuring five concentrated circles, resembling the rings of a tree trunk signifying the journey from traditional roots to a refined dining experience.

The granite flooring is reminiscent of monoliths in southern India, combined with white marble that imbues the space with cultural resonance. Further, softness is introduced through the fabrics and patterns inspired by Indian motifs enriching the design narrative. A constant connection with the outdoors is established, and the various textures from polished surfaces to rough textures set the prelude. Natural light flushes in through the glass blocks during the day with a very zen quality and has an animated quality at dusk.
