T38studio: HDJ86 single family housingfacade

built in tijuana on an in-progress eleven-building lot, HDJ86, the single family housing unit by new york-based T38studio takes advantage of the abundant construction material available for use. imported from suburban developments in san diego, the architectural style of the dwellings references a californian context. the archetype form of the volume integrates a sloping roof, an exploration into the typology of west-coast influenced structures.the program, that of a typical house, is arranged around a double height courtyard that splits the back part of the building into two wings. the front section of the unit is sliced by two openings that create exterior courtyards on the second level, bringing light into the central vertical circulation nucleus. although from the outside, the architecture is perceived as a single monolithic volume, the inside of transforms itself through a continually changing section that is intersected by multiple planes.
