a combination of house and skate park
this 100% sustainable house in rosario, argentina, integrates a curved skateboard ramp into its exterior design. architect macu bulgubure designed a fusion of house and skate park for a client who is a skater and wanted a training ramp to be included in his family dwelling. the outer wooden deck turns into a curved runway and continues as a canopy, that also protects the interior from the intense sunlight during the summer.all images courtesy of walter gustavo salcedo
a 100% sustainable skatehouse
the dwelling by macu bulgubure (see more here) is adjusted to the climate characteristics of the area, and is 100% sustainable; the entire structure is slightly lifted, standing on wooden beams, which protects it from the floods that are often in this region. the electrical energy is generated by solar panels, the water comes from the river and storage system that saves it when rains, while the hot water is produced in a solar heater tank.
furthermore, a black steel frame supports and connects the timber envelope with the main house, creating a strong color contrast with the natural wood. when dark, dotted LED lights hidden in the ceiling, allow the owner to use the skateboard ramp, forming a nice warm atmosphere.
the structure is visible from the inside, revealing as a semicircle wooden sculpture that clad the facade. the architect used wood in the interior to create a feeling of seamless cohesion between the skatehouse’s indoor and outdoor spaces. the dwelling includes a living area with a small fireplace and spacious kitchen, while a light timber staircase leads the residents to the upper level, where the sleeping areas and a bathroom are. the facade is punctured from big openings that provide inhabitants with immersive views of the surrounding scenery.
