‘house T’ by suppose design office is a concrete residence in tokyo that ensures enough privacy while creating a feeling of openness. the house is designed like a concrete box on the outside, while the interiors are characterized by wooden surfaces on the walls and furniture. a large opening on the upper level allows plenty of daylight to enter the home, while the concrete wall that clads its front façade maintains a high level of privacy.all images by toshiyuki yano photography

suppose design office has developed ‘house T’ in tokyo as a concrete box that expands on three levels. the entrance level features a garage in direct connection to the road; the middle level is designed as an open space with high ceilings, and encloses the main living activities; and the top floor, which offers access to an outdoor terrace. light and darkness coexist in a delicate balance, creating a cave-like atmosphere inside the building.

inside, suppose design office has combined concrete with wood to create warm, dark, quite spaces that gradually open up to the surroundings. the main living space on the middle floor benefits from double-height ceilings and an open floor plan that connects the kitchen with the dining and living areas. no air conditioning has been installed; cold water is passed through louvered pipes on the ceiling to cool the room in the summer, while hot water passes under the floor to warm the room by the fireplace in winter.
