studiokontodimas completes holiday retreat in tinos

Emerging from a hillside on the island of Tinos, this contemporary holiday villa opens out onto panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and engulfing Cyclades. Athens-based Studiokontodimas draws on the region’s local architecture and its earthy nature, muted tones, and raw textures to create a cluster of minimalist Mediterranean volumes arranged to emulate a small Greek island neighborhood. Creating a quiet, modern getaway rooted in its environment, the travertine volumes are clad with masonry block screens perforated with a geometric pattern to create small, semi-open enclosures that filter the vistas and sunlight and soften the boundary between interior and exterior.

the villa celebrates mediterranean nature and vernacular

Discreetly tucked into a plane of rocks and stones, the cliffside home along Tinos’ coast is a modern fusion of earthen tones and materials. Drawing on the local island vernacular and adapting to the site’s terrain, cane pergolas, travertine verandas, cement screed floors, and plaster walls come together to create a soft and calm ambience infused in nature. This composition of materials and architectural expression exudes a textural and aesthetic simplicity that simply grounds the villa into its context.

Inside, the team at Studiokontodimas divides the functions across the volumes to accommodate a spacious indoor lounge area with food preparation facilities, various guest rooms, and a large swimming pool spanning the length of the site. In continuation of the exterior, the interior is also defined by a similar light and earthy palette of soft tones and textures, which further roots the architecture into the landscape and generates a serene ambience in sync with its surroundings.
