studio_GAON positions concrete café on an awkward triangular plot

korean architecture practice studio_GAON has completed ‘extrude’ – a concrete café located on the outskirts of seoul. owing to its unusual shape and location next to a busy road, the building’s triangular plot had been left unused for decades. consequently, the structure adopts a protective, monolithic appearance in order to ensure privacy and reduce internal noise pollution.

this outwardly steadfast impression is softened through the introduction of elongated floor-to-ceiling apertures and square windows punctured across the concrete façade. additionally, the structure’s sharp triangular corner has been chamfered, while at ground level, glazing provides a respite from the building’s uncompromising solid form
