modernism in paradise by studio RHE

hugging the rocky coastline of félicité island in the seychelles are four private residences designed by london-based architecture and design practice studio RHE. created for luxury travel company six senses, the dwellings form part of a collection of four 3-5 bedroom houses ranging in size from 650sqm to 1,394 sqm.

in form, the residences make their presence known with striking angular lines that contrast against the smooth granite boulders. however, in color and materiality, the houses harmonize with the surrounding natural landscape thanks to a dark grey granite construction and green roofs.

the vacation homes are embedded into their sites and planned over two levels. the interiors feature palatial spaces, lots of light, and unobstructed views out across the indian ocean. the architects also prioritized outdoor living with a number of secluded terraces and swimming pools. moreover, each house captures the wind, using a ‘venturi’ effect to provide natural cooling.

the studio says the project took 12 years from concept to completion, and a cool £150M to realize.
