studio LOOP opens all-white voice house in japan onto veranda

architecture firm studio LOOP completed an all-white residence in tochigi, japan that focuses on creating an open-sense of privacy for the family residing. located in close proximity to neighboring houses, the project — titled ‘voice’ — is defined by its two sides: a restrained street facing façade with few openings and an open sun deck at the rear.

the corrugated, white envelope is only interrupted by the timber wrapped entrance that leads directly into the primary living programs found downstairs. studio LOOP organized the kitchen, dining and living room in a single open-plan space permeated with natural light. meanwhile the inner veranda and the external deck is organized as a continuous space with the line of sight facing towards the garden where the lawn spreads. the deep roof and sleeve walls protect the wooden sash while blocking the strong sunlight during the summer and the wandering eyes of neighbors.

on the second floor, the bedrooms are lined up on one side; a skylight illuminating the white walls and void below. simple and adaptable to the growing family, the interior spaces are connected through openings and the void, encouraging the rooms to be filled with the voices and the everyday activity of the family.
