named after the famous boulevard near venice beach in california, ‘abbots & kinney’ is an intimate coffee and pastry shop in adelaide, australia. despite its compact footprint, the split personality interior is consisted of two parts; as a tribute to abbot kinney himself; and a celebration of the pastry chef jonny pisanelli’s love for baking.

duality, originality and craft were the concepts in which the designers at studio-gram followed. these binding elements were revealed with the diagonally split interior. at one side, the space is wrapped with an exposed timber structure, while the other half is flushed and painted entirely in black. a bespoke element runs through the making of abbots & kinney. the facade open’s up completely to the only three-tiered bench and table, based at the center of the space. every joinery item, including the leather-wrapped bin, are bespoke elements and expressed in a contemporary manner to unveil a welcoming addition to adelaide’s café scene.
