studio david thulstrup: blow hair salon in copenhagen

designed to as an oasis of pampering, studio david thulstrup mixes custom furniture and a warm palette to finish copenhagen’s hair salon ‘blow’. the small space is enlarged with several mirrors. those lining the walls are hand lacquered by the architects to give off the soft radiance of a cinematic filter. the texture of the hand-poured glaze adds a sense of motion as though wind were blowing gently through hair in an abstract portrait. the effect allows the eye to wander easily through the space. the calm atmosphere is enhanced by a golden glow created by the characteristic furnishings in giallo siena marble and yellow and blonde plywood panels. centrally located in the space, two clear mirrors stand freely at work stations where they draw attention to the client’s beauty. emerging from the surface, a halo of bare bulbs highlights the creative endeavors of the stylists and re-creates the sense of a 1950s hollywood dressing room.
