an off-grid, pine-shaped home nestled amid treetops

Studio Beltrame unveils designs for its new Il Pino treehouse which takes shape as a tall pine tree tucked discreetly into the dense forestscape of the Italian Alps. Following on from their previously completed pinecone shaped Pigna cabin located close by the remote ski village of Tarvisio, Il Pino is spread over three stacked levels, each of which creates a different experience with nature. The energy efficient holiday home nestled high among the otherwise inaccessible treetops only frequented by birds, is almost entirely off-grid as it generates its own renewable energy from solar PV panels.

studio beltrame injects meditative intimacy

Set to be realized by next summer, each level of the treehouse is dedicated to different ways of living and experiencing the engulfing forest. At its base, Il Pino is shrouded in intimacy, while the center enclosed between tree fronds creates a meditative atmosphere. At its highest level, the cabin enjoys a serene sense of stillness with picturesque views overlooking the rolling snow-capped peaks of the Italian Alps.

The architects at Studio Beltrame ensure that Il Pino integrates carefully into its rich natural landscape. Composed of three pitch roofed volumes assembled vertically, the treehouse achieves a minimal footprint, preserving the surrounding nature.

The rooftops will be clad by PV panels to generate an eco-friendly energy supply that ensures the home will remain off-grid. Further, green larch shingles will clad the three roofs, painted to camouflage into the surrounding pine needles. Bringing a sense of nature inside, the interior wall slabs and furnishing will be finished with natural CLT for a true alpine experience both inside and out.

With its unconventional design and local materials, Il Pino desires to stand as a landmark for virtuous eco-tourism. Recently, the project was selected by Airbnb’s OMG! Fund! Competition, receiving a large grant to  realize the proposal.
