Studio Appelo exposes Geschutswerf Apartment’s original frame

Geschutswerf Apartment in Industrial Amsterdam underwent a transformative revival by Studio Appelo, revealing historical nuances. The apartment, altered and layered over three decades, exhibited a fragmented floor plan due to various user modifications. Studio Appelo’s approach was to meticulously peel away the layers, exposing the historic essence and establishing a unified living space. Modern sustainable heating and energy systems were integrated, emphasizing the monumental load-bearing structure. The original framework became the focal point, organizing the layout and delineating secondary functions such as a guest room and storage.

curved furniture and soft tones adorn the interior

The design incorporates soft curves and an earthy green palette, fostering a fluid and extroverted environment tailored to the client’s daily needs. The result is a high-ceiling open space with windows towards the canal and zoo views. Green natural stone covers the kitchen island. The master bedroom features a bathtub and overlooks an internal courtyard. The design team at Studio Appelo engages in a sleek design that elevates the art of the ordinary through meticulous detailing and craftsmanship.
