studio andrew trotter designs its masseria moroseta as a white stone farmhouse proudly overlooking the pugliese landscape, across the olive trees and out to the sea. the design team expresses influence from the ‘masserie’ farmhouses of the past, which are built using traditional techniques and local materials. the dwelling stands as a design-minded enclave of relaxation and rural simplicity. as in a traditional farmhouse, everything is organized around a central courtyard. the salon and veranda open outward to the sea, the staircase to the roof terrace, and the six rooms and suites on either side, half with private gardens, the other half with private terraces facing the fields. in 2017, designboom visited masseria moroseta as part of natuzzi’s campaign shooting in puglia.

masseria moroseta is realized by studio andrew trotter with vaulted ceilings and stone floors keep the inside cool even during the hottest summer days. shared spaces encourage communal gathering, while providing many intimate nooks for moments of simple solitude. these moments are to be found both inside and out, including the living room, the veranda with its outdoor kitchen and grill, the spa and gym, and the large pool. leaving out the marks of time, masseria moroseta connects its visitors with the past in a peaceful environment, and celebrates the traditions of the puglia countryside.

in the design of masseria moroseta, the team at studio andrew trotter took extreme care to look after and respect the natural environment. with a wall thickness of one meter (over three feet), and recycled insulation, very little air-conditioning is needed event in the hottest times of the year, and very little heating in the winter. the living space, with it’s cross ventilation windows, needs no air conditioning at all. solar panels provide enough electricity and heat for the whole building, and the dwelling sources its own water supply for an organic farm. all materials used in the construction are locally sourced, and the project was constructed with the help of local craftsmen.
